Fragments that never go away Passed on from factory To user to landfill To animal to cancer To death to ground And there it lies Beyond humankind Our legacy is not fossils Left for future explorers ---- (chorus) Our great cities Collapsing into the rising sea Poisons created Forever a part of this world Our great cities Collapsing into the rising sea Poisons created Forever a part of this world ---- That can’t be hidden away, or abolished It’s wholesale extinction Caused by short-sighted gain Leaving permanent effects Ten million years after us (when we’re all gone) ---- (chorus) Our great cities Collapsing into the rising sea Poisons created Forever a part of this world Still causing harm That’s our legacy A world without us A wild eden where venom lies beneath

Tuned Out 03:04
I’m making this space my only home I’ve seen enough and I’m staying in It’s gotten too cold, it’s gotten too frightening There’s too much hatred between people There’s too much violence towards the land Defeatism. Denial. Decay. ---- (chorus) Throw yourself at the wolves Jump off the edge of the earth Throw yourself at the wolves What’s fear when you’re always afraid Throw yourself at the wolves Jump off the edge of the earth Throw yourself at the wolves What’s fear when you’re always afraid So much easier to turn a blind eye. --- I’ve heard the facts and I know what I know I’ve listened long enough and now I’m shutting off Cannot keep pace with what others do You and yours stick with your side and I’ve got mine Can’t see it, don’t believe it, get out of the way I’ve got nowhere to go Defeatism. Denial. Decay. ---- (chorus)

A Stray Away 03:01
Who do I see before me That face I came so far to see Forever and a day, or so it seems Absence of presence and what that means That ocean of distance has dried Passage of time measured by new lines around eyes ---- A stray Away ---- And now here we are after it all Still present to answer the call In mind I never left Clever strategies to maintain memories The way it has to be for familiarity As long as I’m a voice between miles A picture to ease this trial Determined, no denial ---- A stray Away ---- (chorus) The distance is so great The weight of waiting So far away with no way To sway the tide of fate The distance is so great The weight of waiting So far away with no way To sway the tide of fate ----- I’m low, slowed down by the box I’m in A matchstick boat in a circular sea Retreat round and round The sound of home Embedded in the crashing waves But I swear one of these days We’ll be reunited, no longer divided ----- A stray Away ----- (chorus) The distance is so great The weight of waiting So far away with no way To sway the tide of fate The distance is so great But I’ve done my waiting I’ve been away for endless days But now the tide is calm, at least today
4.
We get. We take. We give. We’re gone. --- The time has come The time is fleeting All the buzzards hover Clover above the ground Where my ashes disperse Reverse all that hourglass sand And pretend that not a moment was wasted. ---- (chorus) Illusion of choice We’re bound to gravity Illusion of choice We’re bound to time Illusion of choice We’re bound to gravity Illusion of choice We’re bound to entropy ----- Grace guide me into a lasting impression Immersion in the art Partake in a worthwhile endeavor Sever negative impact and evil intent Give all to the world so that it may prosper (Her as earth proper) ---- (chorus) ------ We get. We take. We give. We’re gone. ----- No use for intention Re-invent when you see the need Perfection- the enemy of the good We should strive to be at peace Believe that our impact Is through actions of empathy The world spins on without us Be kind with how we proceed ---- (chorus)
5.
Time Time does not wait For you, for me, for us It is not up for debate. --- As we multiply and justify Our dominance over this earth Time will not be a slave To what we think we are worth --- (chorus) Do you know what’s in front of you? Can you see the present, Informed by the rearview? I don’t know what’s ahead for me Just do as much as I can With the time I’ve received ---- What we perceive and what we believe A bias is a locked gate The ‘rather or not’: freeze on the spot Pretext to unfounded hate. ---- (chorus x 2) ---- Don’t lose sight The precious time we waste Flexing our might Who’s wrong and what’s right ‘Cause when you’re in the ground You won’t make a sound. No protest against time (x2)

about

Late Fall 2020 during much pandemic-fueled boredom and anxiety the idea for Headless Horse began between two friends who live on opposite sides of the country.
Rob had begun learning more about recording and drum programming and wrote some music.
He asked Ryan if he would be interested in contributing to this idea.
Songs began to be written, arranged, edited, re-worked, and so on.
Once ready the completed tracks were finished in a studio in Portland.

The two collaborators here have known each other since probably around 1998 when they both lived in, went to school at, and contributed to the music scene in Buffalo, NY.
From there Rob returned to the Rochester area and started the band Building On Fire. Ryan went back to Syracuse, NY and started Hex Records and put out the Building On Fire record and toured the country with them. Later on Hex Records released music for Rob's next band Achilles. Both Ryan and Rob's respective bands played together many times.
In 2017 Ryan moved to Portland, OR but the two have remained in touch regularly and this collaboration is the latest creative endeavor they have worked on together.
